October 19 FULL HOUSELast night at the National Museum, Cine.SG screening was a FULL HOUSE! ;-)
A BIG Thank you to everyone who came and support the screening, all the journalists who helped in the publicity, the organisers of the screening. Most importantly, everyone who came in particularly for my film, to share the passion we all had for the long lost kampongs or childhoods! :-) I was personally very touched indeed, to know of how the film had connected to not only Singaporeans, but friends from Canada, France and other parts of the world. Thanks for your time, and in allowing me to share with you my personal journey. :-)
Because of your support, your comments and your encouragements, I didn't feel I was alone! :-) Thanks again so much!
Director,
Yee Peng September 15 Diminishing Memories (50mins), Asia Premiere at National MuseumDiminishing Memories Screening at the National Museum this Oct! What? Diminishing Memories, a documentary on Lim Chu Kang will be screened at the National Museum on 18th Oct, Wednesday 7:30pm. For the first time, the 50mins version of the film is screening in Asia, hence an Asia Premiere! The film is about the searching of the filmmaker‘s long-lost childhood memories living in a village that has already died and its spirit dispersed. More than a personal journey, the film also contemplates the price Singaporeans pay for its prosperity today. Why watch this documentary? On 25th Aug 2006, it was announced that Lim Chu Kang will be developed into a "Kampong and farm-like" leisure outing place for Singaporeans. However, how many Singaporeans know much about this area- Lim Chu Kang which used to be a village? Why is Lim Chu Kang called "Lim" Chu Kang? And what was the community like to live in a place where the Japanese used to first invade Singapore during WWII? Although it is a personal journey of the filmmaker attempting to re-capture her childhood memories living in a kampong in Singapore, if you think this doesn’t concern you then you are WRONG! It is ultimately your voice, your story, your history as a Singaporean for what is the price we pay to get where we are now, for its prosperity today? More about the film Diminishing Memories has won the Queensland New Filmmakers Award for the Best Tertiary Documentary in Australia, April 2005. It has also been nominated for Best Documentary at the Asian First Film Festival in Nov, 2005 and awarded the Special Jury Commendation Award in Singapore.
